Hallo and welcome to Pen's channel.
It's a long time since I've updated this page.
You'll see that my main interests here are skating and ballet; most of these clips are transferred from videos that I recorded in the early 1980s.
You will notice that there haven't been any uploads from me for some time - this is because I no longer have the facility to transfer and upload.

I was recently contacted by Carles03 who had a video copy of a version that had been broadcast on Belgian TV. Carles03 sent it to me so I could convert it to DVD to post here. One of my favourite moments from Act II of Kenneth Macmillan's 'Manon'. Here, David Wall plays Lescaut, who is slightly the worse for drink, and not dancing quite as well as he thinks he is! Superb!

He is the one and only. There is a multitude of dancers who can dance this role brilliantly, but there is only one Anthony Dowell.

Thank you for this. 16 years later. :) One instance where Curry's use of well-known ballet music doesn't quite come off. It can't help but invite comparison to Balanchine's definitive use of this piece. This pas de deux calls for some pizazz even in this relatively slow opening section and here everything is very slow and careful. I see what Curry saw in Foulkes but there's more exposure for her here than in Faune and she doesn't hold up as well under it. I believe she did have considerable ballet training, which just underscores how much Curry brings to the table - he's not just "doing ballet," that's natural grace and flow and musicality. It may be inspired and enhanced by ballet but it's something no training can give if you don't have it. Love the beard. Of course Curry looked great in almost any look except that footballer's perm he tried in 1976 of all years.

It’s so wonderful to see dear Freddy, Dowell and Sibley working together! I truly love Sir Frederick Ashton and his work! it is so romantic and beautiful. He has and always will amaze me with his unique and stunning choreography. This was a real treat to see.💖❤

In 1994 they lost the Gold medal, coming in third, to a couple whose free dance was a rock and roll dance similar to this dance.
the judges were never going to let them win anyway (or Katarina Witt). They were only there to boost the ticket sales

5.9 is great but ridiculous, should be 6 across the whole board, nobody else came close to T&D. Saw them live at Nottingham as I lived there then, they were breathtaking.
I think because it was the British championships, the judges were more critical. Also remember this was early in the season (November) and T&D did make several improvements to the programme before the Worlds the following March

I remember holding my breath for almost the entire time during the finals in 1984 and 40 years later that sequence is no less breathtaking! Ice dance perfection.

Stunning. Breathtaking. Effortless. Seamless. - Very few skaters in the history of the sport can take you to the point where you forget that the athlete is actually skating. The control on display here is unlike anything we've seen since. - Which is not to say that Curry is the greatest skater ever. He's not. But what he was and remains, is the best example of controlled fluidity of motion, effortless transition, and virtuosity of "less is more" technique we'll likely ever see.
